"The Literary and Political, in Conversation": Craft Lecture

Craft lecture presented at the Fortify Writing Summit, hosted by Literary Detroit

This craft lecture engages ideas and practices surrounding political writing. Participants will examine political writing as it intersects with academic, journalistic, and creative writing. We will discuss the genre’s historic and cultural contexts, as well as its perceived limitations. This lecture will also consider the writer’s responsibility to pursue "truth" and what challenges arise when writers approach political topics on the page.
